Fun(ny)

First the fun stuff…

I did end up buying a car on the weekend. It is a Toyota Corolla and it’s brand new, as in built specially for me brand new. So excited! It is also metallic blue which just makes it extra cool. I’ll post a photo once I pick it up this weekend.

I also received in the mail my first pair of Converse sneakers. I’ve wanted a pair of these for ages but wasn’t willing to fork out the $90 and anytime they were on sale they were never in my size…until now.

Ok, now onto the funny. The lovely London Mabel sent me an email a couple of days ago letting me know that Kath & Kim, the Australian comedy TV series which I’ve mentioned somewhere previously, has now been uploaded by someone onto YouTube. So now all my aw...

Fifteen Bucks

Due to the pumping schedule, i don't lunch with my grade level buddies this year, but huddle beneath a nursing cover (bib) and pump. So I catch only bits and snatches of grade level business after school. Such as, the kids will need a snack on the bus ride home from the field trip. Ok, I agreed, understanding that we'd split a giant carton of generic goldfish crackers.

Today I found out I owe a colleague fifteen bucks for the individual fritolay chips and juices they elected to purchase for the whole grade. If I'd known it would be this much I would have suggested an alternative, since they were all on the bus together and needed to have the same thing. I. Have. a. Child. for pete's sake. I don't spend fifteen dollars on DINNER much less snack for children who did not listen.

Prayers Please

Friends, I wish I could come up with something insightful or knowledgeable or helpful to say tonight, but I can’t.  Instead, I am asking for your help in the way of prayers, good energy, good thoughts, or whatever form this kind of assistance means for you.

One of my cousins was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident over the weekend.  She’s in a coma.  The doctors don’t have enough information yet to either give hope or dash it.  They just don’t know yet.

J is in her mid-50s, absolutely beautiful, fit, and vibrant.  She’s looking forward to the birth of her first grandchild in a few months.

There is no way that what’s happening with her doesn’t suck.

Since her sister called me with the news this afternoon, I...

World Book Night

Today, April 23rd, is World Book Night. I volunteered to be part of this effort which started in the UK and had its first time ever in the US today. All I had to do was sign up online, pick a book (actually pick three and they chose one of those), go pick up my box of 20 books from the library where they got sent and find a place to hand them out. The very hardest thing for me, who hates to talk to people I don’t know, was accosting people and offering them a book. But I mentally girded up my loins, brought girl child with me, screwed my courage to the sticking point and did it.(How many metaphors does it take to hand out books?)

Here I am outside the Flemington Mall holding two copies of The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. The reception I got from the people I t...

Catsitting Report 2 – Tales from the frontier

Still haven't gone home.

Used the non-flat pillow last night.

Watched several porch kitties come and go for good eats, stocking up before the rain storm blew in. Saw the torty, the light gray, the dark gray, and the tabby. The light gray stared into the window at me, at one point, until I went to check and saw there was no food left.

Sue Ellen -- who is semi feral -- came on my lap for the first time last night! One paw... two paws... she got all four paws on me and stood there feeling very pleased with herself. Then jumped down.

Watching some very foolish tv. New fave show: Long Island Medium.

Bread done. Chips done. Almost out of Oreos, muligatawny soup and Pepsi. But there's still tea.

Speaking of whi...
